Liewerth is not recorded in Stockel, but Baden was a town in South Germany, and the configuration of these guns is circa the middle of the 19th century. Octagonal Skelp Damascus barrels with hooked breeches signed "Liewerth" on top flat, heavily swamped at the muzzle, with a bead front sight and notch rear sights. Locks engraved "In Baden" with slight scrollwork, dolphin form hammer en suite, side screw through an escutcheon with what appear to be geese. Set triggers protected by a trigger guard with spur, engraved with a panoply of arms and a stylized pineapple finial. Grips checkered in two panels of point pattern checkering, buttcap fluted and finished by an octagonal steel cap. CONDITION: Barrels essentially gunmetal grey with traces of bluing, Damascus clearly defined. Trigger guard and escutcheon the majority of newer bluing, with traces of fire bluing on triggers. Stocks good with handling marks and impressions throughout, but no cracks or chips. Mechanically fine, including set triggers, bores are bright and largely clean with some soft frosting.
