Converted by the renowned barrel borer William Ford of Birmingham circa the early 1900s with standard Nitro proofs. Not of standard military configuration, this example was likely for commercial sale for colonial or volunteer use. Full rust blued finish with blade front sight and ladder rear. Full length walnut forend retained by a single barrel band with side mounted bayonet lug. Buttstock stamped on each side "WILLIAM FORD / BIRMINGHAM" near the steel butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Fine bore. An interesting carbine deserving of further research.
