Signed "Nagasone Okisato Nyudo Kotetsu". Kurijiri nakagoiri and kiri yasurime. Unokobi zukuri, 40cm nagasa. In polish, with a clearly defined gunome midare hamon with nie throughout, becoming ko-maru at the boshi with some hakikake. Hataraki of sunagashi and ashi. Grain pattern is ko-mokume. Gold foil habaki with relief carved falling rain. In a shirasaya with sayagaki that reads "Nagasone Okisato Nyudo Kotetsu". Kotetsu is one of the most important of the shinto smiths, and is rated Saijosaku and Saijo Owazamono in Fujishiro; cf. pages. 27-32 in Shinto Hen. CONDITION: In good, clean polish, with a few spots of sumi, and some looseness in the shinogi ji. Features and hamon visible throughout, sword is very healthy. Accompanied by a sleeve of paperwork with research on Kotetsu, including copies of Hawleys, photos of the sword, etc.
