38.3cm (approximately 15 - 1/16") nagasa of hira zukuri form. Mokume hada (grain) with a nice gunome hamon with thin ashi and yo. Boshi is ko maru with a long turnback. Ubu, mumei, with kesho yasurime and one mekugi-ana. Solid silver tsuba with carved design of falling rain. Tsuba is mumei, and heavily worn but appears to be depicting a pirest with a gourd and florals. Saya (scabbard) is lacquered pine needles mixed with crushed abalone, kozuka with a sambar stag handle. Fuchi with a basketweave pattern and golden vignettes of ships and scenery. Floral menuki. Kashira soft but appears to be floral in nature. CONDITION: Blade is in clean polish with some minor handling marks, a few minor spots of looseness towards mune. Mounts are very good, koiguchi with some damage and probably replaced. A good wakizashi.
