Kanehide's real name was Nakata Isamu, born 1913, and trained under 12th generation Kawashima Masahide and Watanabe Kanenaga. In November 1937, he was a chief student at Kanenaga's school. In 1941, he was a Rikugun Jumei Tosho, and joined the Seki Sword Joint-Stock Corporation; he also made swords after the war. Recorded in Slough, pgs. 41-42, rated at 2 million yen and as making high to superior gendaito. 64.5cm nagasa (approximately 25 - 3/8") of classic shinogi zukuri form. Grain is not visible due to state of polish, but temper looks like togari-choji midare, and quite active. Signed "Seki Kanehide Saku Kore" with a star stamp, and dated Showa 19 Month 9 (?, possibly 6, character is somewhat rushed), which would be September of 1944. Late war Type 3 mounts, with the tsuba electropencilled with a social security number. CONDITION: Blade is out of polish with some light scattered mossing and pinprick oxidation, with a very slight bend to the right. Mounts with rubs and handling marks throughout, some to bare wood; spring catch has broken, possibly intentionally to facilitate a faster draw.
