67.3cm nagasa (approximately 26 - 1/2") of shinogi zukuri form, with a classic oil tempered gunome temper line and maru boshi. Nakago with a Sho stamp, ha agari kurijiri, a single mekugi-ana, and signed "Noshu (?, unclear, possibly Ju?) Kanezane Saku Kore (kokuin)"; translating to "Kanezane of Noshu province carefully made this", but is likely nakirishimei. Kanezane, born Asano Shinichi, was a student of Kanemichi and opened his own school in Gifu, with notable students including Kanetada and Michisane. He won several wards in exhibitions, including rating second seat during the 1941 Exhibition, and was further ranked Betski, putting him in the same class as Ishido Teruhide. Type 98 mounts with a single hanger, paint more reddish than normally encountered. Mixed numbers on mounts indicate composition. CONDITION: Blade has some handling marks, superficial scratches, and mossing throughout, but temper line is clear and well defined. Mounts with some handling marks, impressions, and scrapes, on notable dent on right side below hanger, and some flecks of what appear to be paint. A well presenting sword by a good, documented smith.
