65.4cm nagasa (approximately 25 - 3/4") of classic shinogi zukuri form. Choji midare tmeper line, well defined, with grain not observable due to state of polish. Nakago with star stamp, kesho yasurime (file marks), signed "Yakumo Masakiyo Saku" and dated in the 10th month of Showa 19 (October 1944); Yakumo is a village in Shimane prefecture, and in 1942 Masakiyo was the head wordsmith for Izumo Seiko in Shimane prefecture. Masakiyo was quite talented, and was a Rikugun Jumei Yosho, and 1st seat at the 1941 Exhibiton, see Slough "Oshigata..." pg. 101. Brass habaki, tsuba, and seppa, and catch numbered "40". Tsuka ito a composite, with white sa-me and brown tsuka-ito. Black saya with white-metal mounts, brown sword tassel. CONDITION: Good, with some cleaned mossing on the bottom half of the blade, with a largely well defined temper line throughout, interrupted in some spots by the mossing. Some superficial scratches and a strike on right side of mine. Mounts are very good with handling marks and some indentations.
