69.9cm nagasa (approximately 27 - 1/2") of classic shinogi zukuri form with gunome midare temper and what appears to be a ko-itame grain, somewhat obscured by state of polish. Silver washed copper habaki with carved design of falling rain. In Type 98 mounts with a leather covering for scabbard with stud fastener at fuchi with Reindeer Finish fastners. Clearly a family sword mounted for war use. CONDITION: Blade with some mossing and superficial scratches throughout and some very minor chips and oxidation along the cutting edge, with some scattered indentations along mune. Mounts are very good with some handling marks and scrapes with typical age related marks and crazing to leather. Stud fastner is slightly too short and suggests that mounts may be composited.
