Built in New York City, patent in 1856, the majority of which were sold to the US Government. It is a six shot, 44 caliber, double action revolver. This example has been converted from percussion to self contained 44 caliber cartridges. The only legends are found on both sides of the lower frame. The serial number, (matching) is found on the barrel and on the frame under the hammer. The one piece walnut grips have a government inspector cartouche on both sides that is visible but not legible. Gun fires as double action only. The cylinder is stamped 594. CONDITION: Very good. The cylinder and conversion ring are grey patina. The frame retains flashes of blue but basically soft grey patina. The barrel is a blended patina with bluish tone. The action functions correctly. The bore is sharp with minor abrasions. The loading lever (now of no use) has much more blue than balance of gun and was probably replaced. The grips have a missing sliver on right side and a chip off the toe at lower tang. This tang shows a period repair of some sort. An interesting and fairly hard to find conversion.
