These muskets have the distinction of being the first US Armory produced percussion long arm and the last .69 caliber smoothbore. The lock has the US eagle, stamped "Springfield" and is dated 1849. All features are standard to include three barrel bands, metal ramrod, one piece walnut stock, VP eagle head proof on barrel with sling swivels. CONDITION: Very good. Metal finished in the white with overall freckling. Legends are strong. Stock is solid, no visible cartouche with scattered dings, dents, impressions and a few small chips. Fine working order. Bore shows some residue. Nice honest example. These were widely used during the Civil War.
