This Colt shows several individual inspector martial stamps. The brass trigger guard has the scarce rebuild stamp. Within this group of guns sent to be refurbished, “cleaned & repaired”, is a smaller sub-set of revolvers that is estimated to be about 1,000 - 1,500 guns that were marked U S on their trigger guard plates forward of the bow. There are no factory stamps of any kind on the barrel. Neither are there any to be seen on the rebated cylinder which has no Naval scene or serial number patent bar. There is an inspector H stamp at top of back strap but no visible serial number. Gun has matching numbers on the frame and cylinder post only. There is an H on guard as well but no number. This gun exhibits bank note scroll engraving on every exposed part including the dog head hammer. The gun is cut for a shoulder stock. There is no original finish and gun has been cleaned in the white with exception to brass trigger guard. The left grip appears to have traces of a cartouche but not legible. The Gustave Young style engraving is factory quality. Gun was probably purchased privately after the war and later upgraded. CONDITION: Very good as described, clean and in the white. Grips show some loss at toe. Cylinder indexes. Bore is sharp with minor residue. A very handsome western revolver upgraded after the war.
