This is the earliest example pre dating the reorganization and the trigger guard spur of 1870 and is dated St69 (Steyr 1869), the very first of the new Austrian military rifle replacing the Model M.1854 Lorenz rifled muskets and it's conversions. It is a single shot, breech loading rifle similar to the M1866 British Snider. This rifle has the 1877 updated slotted firing pin and there is no date on the back action lock. Also features the updated rear ladder sight with standard nearly full length walnut stock, two barrel bands, metal ramrod and swivels. A bayonet lug without tenon is fitted along the right side of the barrel to mount the M1869 Werndl Sabre Bayonet to the right of the barrel. Matching serial number on barrel and side lock. CONDITION: All metal is smooth patina. Stock is solid with usual small dent and bruises. Bore is bright.
