MANUFACTURED IN 1870. This gun falls in the no record range. The brass frame is masterfully engraved with nearly full coverage along with engraving on the nose cap and the toe of butt plate. The forward vignette is an eleven point circular design with a bank note scroll border and is the same on both sides. The center vignette panels are in same location on both sides and are similar in design yet different pattern. The majority of receiver exhibits the bank note American scroll with textured back ground. We could not find an exact match in the engraving samples but we feel that it is from the shop of John Ulrich. All the traits are there. The lower inside tang is stamped J.F. and it is our opinion that this was an engraver in the Ulrich shop. The 8016 partial serial number is stamped inside the top stock channel as well as on the butt plate. The frame screws are blue. The sights consist of a folding Beech front, the 900 yard folding ladder rear with a rare early Vernier tang sight pictured in the Madis book but does not even have a model number. The inside lower tang has the XX stamp with an S indicating the special grain walnut stock that has the deluxe piano finish. The butt trap contains the four piece cleaning rod. Other features include the full octagon barrel, full tube magazine and swivels. The Winchester two line barrel legend does not have the Henry notation. The hammer and lever are case color with some flashes of color. CONDITION: Excellent. All of the brass is wonderfully toned with crisp engraving. The stocks are proud to metal and exhibit only minor impressions. The barrel and tube are a butter smooth homogenous blue blending to an even patina with some age freckles. Barrel legends are crisp. Even the bolt retains generous blue finish. The action is smooth and the bore is strong and bright. The loading gate retains majority of blue. Even the screws retain a generous bright blue. Simply stunning example.
