Frame is stamped "WAFFEN-HONOLD ULM", for Georg Honold in Ulm, Germany. Georg was not a gunmaker, but a salesman. He sold firearms crafted by the many gunmakers in the Ulm area under his own name beginning after the World War I. In addition, the frame is engraved "LT. ROBERT A. BONNER". Bonner was presented the Silver Star by the United States Navy for conspicuous gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as a Chaplain with a Marine Artillery Regiment of the First Marine Division in Korea between September 15th and September 27th, 1950. The rifle is a typical pre-war Mauser factory made sporting rifle that features a checkered pistol grip walnut stock with cap, roll over cheek piece, sling swivels, Schnabel forend, left side safety, double set triggers, quick release floor plate, round bolt knob, claw mounts, fully matted barrel rib, and two leaf folding rear sight. The frame is completely scroll engraved as is the floor plate, trigger guard, bolt handle/ knob and a light border at barrel muzzle and breech. CONDITION. Beautiful gun, sharp checkering, only a few minor impressions. Very light thinning high edge wear only. Bright bore. Double triggers work.
