Lot consists of (A) Large artillery supply powder horn measuring 13" excluding the elongated screw plug and spout plug. The tapered body has a conical spout section and a wooden plug. Iron ring for strap attachment mounted at base, just above wood butt. Threaded removable plug in center of base. Applied silver square button reads "TIR NAM / BEANN'S NAN / LEANN'S NAN / GAISGEACH" (trans: Land of the mountains, glens, and heroes) with a crossed battle axe and sword with a lion in the center. CONDITION: Dark patinas throughout, one large section of loss to wooden plug, chip shows smooth edges and great age wear. (B) Leather 24-hole waist cartridge box. Three piece construction with two belt loops on back. 24-hole wood black. Some brass tack decoration. CONDITION: Shows some shrinkage, crazing and minor losses to surface. Name and date "1778" inscribed on lid. A nice group.
