Desirable and scarce US regulation M1832 artillery officer "stove pipe" full dress shako. Consignor tag found with shako identifies the hat to a Joseph F. Farry. Tag reads, "Cadet USMA 1841 / 2ndLt 4th Art 1 July '45 / 2ndLt 3 Art 17 Oct '46/ KIA 8 Sept '47 Molino Del Rey." Cursory research confirms the existence of Farry and his Mexican War service. Inside is all original with thin buckram crown, high black leather sweatband, and ivory colored polished cotton high quality lining to sides. Tarred bill is solidly attached with eagle "A" artillery side buttons holding the tarred chinstrap. Original red branch denoting ostrich plume present. CONDITION: Very good. No fading or bug damage, or soft spots observed.
