US Army regulation Model 1851 enlisted infantry dress shako. Desirable pattern that surfaces infrequently. Shako is of standard contract construction with a body of dark blue wool broadcloth covering a heavy pressed shape pasteboard frame with proper and period correct wool pompon to top of crown. The crown is outlined with a reed that forms a welt in the cloth covering. The base of the shako is wrapped with a second piece of broadcloth approximately 2 - 1/4" high which rises to a point at the front. The top edge of this second piece forms a welt. The condition of the pasteboard body is good. Attached to the front of the shako is a leather visor with rounded corners and a bound edge. Visor is firmly attached. CONDTION: Overall very good. 6 moth nips observed to body.
