M1858 McDowell forage cap that exhibits period wear. Original chinstrap is secured with brass eagle buttons and remains supple. Strap sits on a curved tarred leather bill showing only light crazing. Blue broadcloth body shows some scattered moth nips overall that do not detract or affect the shape. Retains brown polished cotton lining and firm pasteboard crown. Remnants of the original label are visible on the crown. Leather sweatband is present but missing about 25% of its construction. The rest of the sweatband exhibits scuffs and other blemishes from wear and age. Most stitching is tight on the interior with a few areas that display loose thread. Exterior displays tight stitching throughout with solid construction and shape. CONDITION: Very good.
