Circa 1887. A rare London made safari rifle with dovetail 26" black steel barrels. Barrels are built a 3 – 1/8” chambers and extractors. Barrels fit with a wide fine filed flat top rib with rear sights, one standing and regulated for 100 yards and one folding leaf sight regulated for 200 yards, and a front blade sight with flip up low light sight. Rib also fit with dolls head extension. Right barrel reads "1 CONDUIT ST. REGENT ST. LONDON N.W.". Left barrel reads "J. & W. TOLLEY. MAKERS". Bottom rib with loop for sling and reads "6645", "J&WT", and "15". Bottoms of barrels stamped with Birmingham proofs and "39". Case colored boxlock action with third fastener, checkered top lever, double triggers, and checkered safe slide, “SAFE” is in gold. Frame is engraved with light border scroll and with makers name "J. & W. Tolley". Water table marked with serial number and “ANSON & DEELEY’S PATENT 4047”. Reddish brown stock with drop points and fine checkered semi-pistol grip with loop for sling and finished with a 1” orange Silvers pad. Pistol grip with horn shell cap. Checkered splinter forend with Deeley engraved release latch and escutcheon. Interior iron metal is case colored and bares matching serial number. Rifle lives in vintage leather case with paper J. & W. Tolley trade label. Exterior case lid reads “CAP’T. H.S. FITZGERALD”, “DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY.”. With a set of RCBS dies for .577/500 BPE with a 3 - 1/8" chamber, and copies of "The British Bore Rifle" and "The Double Rifle Primer". CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels are clean and rifling is excellent. Action is sound. Stock is excellent refurbished. Forend is excellent. Case is good with missing handle and signs of use. PROVENANCE: Cal Pappas Collection
