Circa 1873. An 8 bore with dovetail 36" grey/brown Damascus barrels. Barrels have been built with extractors and a smooth concave rib. Rib has been designated with a round steel front sight and a dolls head extension at breech. Rib reads “W.&C. SCOTT & SON. MAKERS. & PATENTEES. 10 CT. CASTLE STREET REGENT CIRCUS LONDON”. Bottoms of barrels read “CHOKE”, “9”, “NOT FOR BALL” and with Birmingham proofs. The 10 bore dovetail 32" Damascus barrels were added to the gun on a later date by the maker and are serialized to the gun. Rib reads “W.&C. SCOTT & SON. MAKERS. & PATENTEES. 10 CT. CASTLE STREET REGENT CIRCUS LONDON”. Rib with round front bead sight and dolls head extension. Bottom of barrels read “11” and with Birmingham proofs. Both sets of barrels with serial number on bottom right, alongside lump. Hammered action with top lever dolls head locking mechanism, displays various shades of case color. Metal has border scroll engraving with the top lever indicating the maker's "Patent". Maker name “W & C SCOTT & SON” is engraved at bottom of lock plates. Water table marked with serial number and makers patent. Double triggers are protected by the wide trigger guard with border scroll that extends down to a 3/4 length bottom strap. Bottom strap with serial number. The figured reddish brown walnut straight grip stock with fine and sharp checkered English straight hand nicely with a well executed full wrap-around pattern is completed by a black 1” rubber pad. Each barrel with their independent forearms. Original 8 bore splinter forearm is attached via cross pin and has a nicely carved decorative metal tip. The second splinter forearm accompanying the 10 bore barrel is about 1" shorter and has a lever release. Both with guns serial number on interior case color hardened metal. Gun resides in a brick canvas and leather case with paper “W & C SCOTT” trade label and two completed charge cards. Accompanied by Cal's tools for both 10 and 8 bore, with containers labelled as such, approximately 24 8 bore brass cases, and a spam can of cast balls. Further accompanied by copies of "The British Bore Rifle" and "The Double Rifle Primer". CONDITION: Excellent. Both sets of barrels with minor handling marks. Action is sound and very good with some color fading; the locks retain 80%, with the balance of the metal surfaces showing a mix of brown and gray. Stock is very good with some handling marks. Forends both very good with some soiling / handling marks. Case very good (no straps) with usage and storage indication. PROVENANCE: Cal Pappas Collection
CORRECTION: The barrels have been rebrowned and a new recoil pad added.
