This is a third variation made only from 1918-1920 for training use during the first World War. Built on the falling block single shot 1885 low wall action with a walnut stock and matching nearly full length forearm which was made with finger grooves and held to barrel with a single barrel band. Features a dove tail on ramp front sight and a right side mounted Lyman 1902 patent receiver peep sight. Metal was finished blue. The upper tang is stamped US with an ordnance bomb. Barrel stamped PW with .22 short and Winchester legend on left side. Also features a metal carbine style butt plate and swivels. CONDITION. Excellent. Receiver shows traces of blue but basically flaked patina. Barrel shows strong blue drifting patina with good barrel legends. Forward tang screw is missing. Wood is excellent, proud to metal, with scattered bumps and bruises. Butt stock has a light hairline at base of wrist and is a bit darker than forearm. Bore is strong but frosted.
