John Knubley is reocrded in London circa 1785-1799. Pistols of identical form and likely manufactured as a pair, with octagonal Damascus barrels with hooked patent breeches, signed "LONDON" across top flat, German silver blade front sight, and gold lined touch holes. Barrel is retained by a pair of keys through silver escutcheons. Stepped lock with English sliding safeties, and engraved at step with a starburst design and stiff leaves, signed "KNUBLEY" in center. Waterproof bridled pan with roller bearing frizzen and gooseneck cock. Set triggers with pineapple finials, trigger guards are beaded with an engraved panoply of arms. Bag grips with point pattern checkering. Brass head trumpet ramrods with worms, one likely a replacement, retained by a single iron ferrule and feeding into a reinforced mouth. CONDITION: Barrels with reapplied browning, some softening to legends, which are still legible. Stocks are very good with scattered impressions and handling marks throughout, pistol (B) with some abraded heads near tang, (A) with some splits in ramrod channel. Lock on (B) with a replaced frizzen, and visible brass repair. Both pistols are essentially dove grey with some oil staining in recesses. Mechanically fine, bores are with some areas of oxidation throughout.
