Mid-18th century. Nearly a pair with slight differences to engraving and sideplates. Two-stage round barrels with swamped muzzles, tops engraved "LONDON". Left side of one breech with private London view and proof marks and a diamond with "PG" for maker Peter Gandon. The other with the same, with the exception of a stamped heart above the diamond with "PG". Convex lock plates with rigs of engraving at tails, tooled borders, and engraved "GANDON" in centers. Unbridled pans. Engraved iron trigger guard and ramrod ferrules. Silver mounts include grotesque mask pommel caps, one with indistinct hallmarks. Foliate silver sideplates, one differing at the front lock screw, and symmetrical wrist escutcheons with grotesque faces and shells. Walnut stocks, one light and the other dark, with relief shells carved around barrel tangs. CONDITION: Barrels and locks polished bright. Both in their original flintlock configuration; both are strong and function properly. Trigger guards and ramrod ferrules polished bright. Silver mounts retain a mostly polished surface. A nice brace of gentleman's semi-holster pistols.
