In the mid-1870s Colt produced approximately 2,200 of these conversions. Blued 7 - 1/2" barrel with New York address, German silver blade front sight, and ejector. Conversion cylinder rolled with naval engagement scene. Case hardened frame marked on the left with 1871 and 1872 patents. ".36 CAL" marked silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. Grips are 1-piece smooth walnut. Matching numbers observed on the frame, grip straps, and rear of the cylinder. Revolver is accompanied by an early tooled leather slim slim holster which has been switched from left hand to right hand draw. CONDITION: Fine for its age. Barrel assembly retains significant portions of factory blue in the protected areas, the balance faded to brown patina. Significant portions of fading case colors displayed on frame and hammer, areas fading to patina. Strong traces of nitre blue retained on trigger. Grips are very good with some moderate wear and impressions. Strong, well defined bore with some evidence of black powder usage. Crisp mechanics. Holster has some expected surface wear and a small area of separation along the edge stiching but remains supple. A nice example of a rare conversion.
