According to the Colt factory archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .38/c with a 6'' barrel. Stocks not listed. Special features, Square butt configuration. Sold to the United States Government and shipped to Depot Quartermaster, United States Marine Corps, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 28, 1939 in a shipment of 10 guns. The letter also states that it was returned to the factory on November 21, 1939. It was then shipped to W. S. Darley and Company in Chicago, Illinois for Russell Meskow of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania on May 2, 1940. This gun sports a set of factory brown plastic checkered grips with silver Colt medallions. Two line barrel address on top of the barrel. "COLT SHOOTING MASTER .38" on the left side of the barrel. There is a rampant Colt logo on the left side of the frame. The front and rear grip straps are checkered. There is a "USMC / PROPERTY" on the bottom of the grip. CONDITION: This gun retains the vast majority of the original blue finish. It has some holster wear on the barrel and some high edge wear. There is a turn line on the cylinder. Checkering on the grips is sharp and crisp. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves.
