Parts from this model have been excavated at known campsites of Lafayette's Light Infantry troops. This model is rare, especially so with a "US" surcharge. The round barrel is stamped "DY 76" on the left side of the breech, denoting a 1776 date of manufacture. The convex lockplate has an early deeply stamped "US" horizontally at the tail. The center is engraved "Manuf Royale / de St. Etienne". Standard Model 1774 iron furniture. Complete with the rarely intact iron bayonet clip protruding from the muzzle band. The original sling swivels are still in place as well. The right side of the walnut buttstock is carved with "4WKW". CONDITION: Barrel, lock and iron furniture all retain a pleasing dark patina, markings excellent. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration and has a strong, well-functioning mechanism. Partial period wooden ramrod. The stock shows some wear and scattered marks from use, wrist has been professionally repaired. A very important American Revolutionary War used and marked musket.
