Standard configuration P.08 manufactured by Simson & Co. Suhl during the interwar Weimar era. Chamber area is blank, while the right side bears Simson "(Eagle) / 6" and "(Eagle) / 53" waffenamts, followed by a Weimar reichsadler. Additional Simson "(Eagle) / 6" waffenamts are present on various other external and internal components. Toggle is stamped "SIMSON & CO/ SUHL". Front grip strap bears a unit mark which is partially defaced and appears to read "Za.K.36". Magazine bottom bears 2 "(Eagle) / 6" waffenamts as well as an unknown hand-scribed symbol. Major metal components are rust blued, while some smaller components are strawed or nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever and bar, barrel, receiver, trigger bar, breechblock, firing pin, forward and rear toggle links, receiver axle, grips, as well as the aluminum magazine bottom. Receiver axle appears to be force matched and has had its rim removed. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their arsenal applied rust blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall showing through to pleasant gray and brown patinas, with some areas of light pitting and mild surface oxidation overall. Strawed components vary in condition, retaining fair to good amounts of their finish and exhibit mild surface oxidation and age related discoloration. Mirror bore, exhibiting some small spots of very light surface oxidation and retaining good rifling throughout. Grips are wood, exhibiting some smoothing and some scattered nicks to the diamonds, but are otherwise fine. Left grip panel bears a small loss just to the rear of the safety lever. A very nice example of an all matching Simson & Co. P.08 Luger with an unusual unit marking.
