Manufactured circa 1916. Between 1915 and 1917 approximately 294,000 M1895s were manufactured for the air force and police units of the Russian Empire, accounting for about 70% of total production of the rifles prior to 1932 when the M1895 was discontinued. Chambered in 7.62×54mmR, these versions were unusual for a lever-action rifle in that they also had a charger guide, allowing the M1895 rifle to be reloaded by the same charger clips used in the Mosin–Nagant bolt-action rifle. The fore-end tip has a bayonet lug as well. The three piece walnut stock set has a hand guard and a carbine style butt plate with trap door and three swivels. (rear example has eye only) Right side of stock has "Ym3" cartouche in box. Finish is blue. Rear sight is military style 3200 meters. The top of the chamber has the Winchester factory proof over "7.62/M.M.". Complete with a long pattern bayonet. CONDITION: Very good. The lower fore-end wood has a 4" chunk missing and the stock has a few gouges along with scattered small dings and impressions. The frame has flaked to brown with flashes of original blue. The barrel retains at least 85% blue with some thinning and handling. The bore is really sharp. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
