Manufactured in 1893. The barrel, magazine and forearm have been shortened to create this short rifle. Features an octagon to round barrel, half magazine, semi buckhorn rear sight, dovetail on base front sight, walnut stock with rifle butt plate, swivels. The left side of receiver has been taped for peep sight. Top of barrel and breech has caliber re-stamp 45-70-500 with Winchester legend on left side. CONDITION: Good as altered. The barrel is a smooth brown patina with wiped on finish. Receiver has been cleaned and in the white with age freckles. Stock is flush to metal with some light scattered impressions. Forearm is a bit shy to metal with some impressions having been shortened. Rifling is well defined and clean with light abrasions. Fine action. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
