Manufactured in 1889. Never produced in great numbers as it was just too heavy for a boys rifle and was never popular with riflemen. It features a standard full octagon barrel and full tube magazine, a full size semi buckhorn rear sight, replaced front sight, blue finish, a walnut stock with a no trap rifle butt plate and matching forearm. Left side of barrel has the two line Winchester legend and stamped at breech, .22 Short. Tang has standard Model 1873 legend. The brass follower is engraved 22 cal. short. CONDITION: Fine. Much better than usually seen. The frame retains at least 75% blue coverage although dulling and blending patina. Dust cover is patina. The barrel retains about 30% blue with balance patina , some age freckling and light spotting. The tube is spotted brown patina. The stock is just a hint shy to metal with added finish but solid. The forearm is flush to metal, scattered impressions and some added finish. The bore is actually well defined but dull. Action is fine. Much better than usually found, especially the bore. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
