Manufactured at the Amberg Arsenal in 1887 as Germany's first magazine fed repeating rifle. Arsenal blued barrel marked at the breech with Imperial German proofs and arsenal marking. Blade front sight and ladder rear. Receiver correctly remains in the white. Full length walnut stock marked on the toe line with German proofs. Mounts include 3 barrel bands, the forward band with saber bayonet lug and butt plate unit marked "B12R / 15 / 179" for the 12th Bavarian Infantry Regiment. Complete with brass muzzle cover. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel retains the vast majority of the arsenal applied. Fittings retain portions of original finish, largely faded to plum patina. Receiver has developed a brown patina. Stock has an age darkened appearance with light attic burn and scattered impressions. Excellent mirror bore, possibly unfired. Fine mechanics. Full or partial matching serial numbers observed throughout.
