Manufactured in 1890. The factory research indicates that this gun was shipped as a standard rifle with octagon barrel in 38-56 caliber. The gun was bored out to 45-70 and so marked at barrel breech. The barrel and tube were shortened to 20" with proper front sights and tube set back. A new saddle ring and stud were added and the entire gun was refinished. The forearm is the standard 9 3/8" instead of the shorter 8 3/8" usually used on rifles 22" or less. Gun sports standard sights. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel and tube retain the majority of blue finish as does the bolt. The case colors not done in Winchester tones. Stocks are shy to metal with some minor impressions / dings. The two line Winchester barrel legend is fine. Tang legend is Model 1886. No PW proof. The action is fine. The bore is strong.
