Manufactured in 1905. Left side of frame is stamped "From W.F. Sheard Tacoma Wash" William Sheard invented and patented a number of gunsights, which he later sold to Marbles. Retailer marked Winchesters are rather scarce and quite desirable. At one time, the standard peep sight two holes were installed, usually found on post 1952 guns. The left screw goes through the Sheard stamp so it was done sometime later. Standard rifle with full octagon barrel, full tube magazine, blue finish, walnut stock with rifle butt plate and matching forearm. The front sight is a dual marked Marble's Sheard. The rear slot has a filler. The tang sight has no outward maker. CONDITION: Excellent. This is a clean gun. The receiver retains 70% of the bright blue blending gun metal, mostly carry wear. Bright blue on loading gate and extractor. Solid 95% blue on barrel and tube with light thinning, some handling and few freckles. The stock is proud with minimal impressions, but there is a small hair line and chip at toe. Forearm is a touch shy with few impressions. Action is fine. Bore is crisp with a bit of frosting. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
