Manufactured in 1895. This cartridge was not introduced until 1903 and the PW proofs seen on barrel and frame were not applied until the 1905 era, therefore, this gun had been shipped back to the factory post 1905 and altered by them to the new .33 cartridge in a lightweight rifle. Obviously, it was far less expensive to update your old slow black powder cartridge rifle than it was to buy a new one. That said, this rifle now features a light weight round barrel with full length take down tube magazine. The front sight with brass bead dovetail on base. Rear sight is a flat top sporting version. Finish is blue. The walnut stock has the old type rifle butt plate with matching forearm. The top of barrel has the two line Winchester legend with PW at breech and on receiver. CONDITION: Excellent. The frame retains approximately 40% blue with balance a shiny gun metal showing some cleaning on left side. The bolt retains majority of blue. The stock is flush to metal showing scattered dings and impressions with matching forearm condition. The barrel retains 70% blue with balance thinning. Magazine shows about the same with some handling marks. The action is fine and the bore is strong. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
