Manufactured in 1904. Factory research shows this gun shipped with an octagon barrel but in .38-56. This gun sports an octagon barrel in 38-70. The barrel has a 1905 or later PW proof, while the 1904 frame does not, indicating it had a new factory barrel in the .38-70 caliber installed on this rifle in 1905 or later. Other features include a full length magazine tube, dovetail front sight, flat top sporting rear sight, and walnut stock with rifle butt plate and matching forearm. Factory finish is blue with case color frame, lever, and hammer. CONDITION: Very good. All case colors are now a smooth patina. The barrel retains a solid 95% blue with minor rubs and handling with a crisp Winchester two line top barrel legend. The tube is about 30% blue blending gunmetal grey. The tube hanger has some wiped-on finish. The stock is proud to metal, but the right side has grain separation from dryness along with two 1/4" size dings on left side with scattered nicks and impressions. The forearm shows just minor impressions and light scars. The action works fine. The bore is strong and bright with minor abrasion. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
