71cm nagasa of classic shinogi zukuri form. Out of polish, but looks like it may be masame and mokume. Hamon with better definition and is a low gunome with more activity towards habaki, almost togari-ba in some areas. Short chu-kissaki with boshi not visible due to state of polish. Gold foil habaki with carved design of falling rain. Suriage nakage with kuri jiri, katte sagari yasurime, two mekugi-ana and signed very softly in two characters; appears to read "Motomune". Tsuba of mixed shakudo, copper, and old, depicting a village scene one one side, and more cloud and trees on the other, giving the feel of a mountain village. Tsuba appears to be Hikone school, signed "Nyudo Soten sei" and "Soheishi" on face, and "Goshu" and "Hikone Ju" on reverse. Roiro saya with an old affixed tag, illegible. Fuchi with incised paulownia designs, polished horn kashira, menuki in the form of horses. Quality sa-me. CONDITION: Blade is out of polish, with some spots of mossing throughout, and one chip that does not break through hamon. Hamon relatively clear and defined with some hazier areas. Some areas of loosesness and openings, and a long kitae ware on right side of shinogi ji, and a area of freckling. Mounts are very good with some handling marks and rubs throughout, but solid and strong. Saya split along spine and belly, tsuba with rubs and marks but retaining the vast majority of the finishes. An interesting sword.
