Originally manufactured in 1841 by Nathan Starr for US military and militia use in classic configuration. Top of barrel is marked with US proofmark and ownership marking as well as "JN" inspector initials near breech. Breech plug tang is marked "1821" against the axis of the tang. Wrist of stock is fit with a period brass repair. Stock is decorated on left side with brass 6 pointed stars and crescent moon motif. Period hand carved on the left side of stock underneath cheekpiece with "Elisha Fowler", likely a previous owner. CONDITION: Good, with iron assemblies turned a brown patina with replaced rear sight and reshaped rear sight. Stock has cracks near repair but is solid. Brass decorations are a mellow patina. Mechanically fine. Bore is dark with crisp rifling. An attractive rifle turned folk art.
