Lot consists of: (A) Civil War cap box in the federal style of brown leather with outer flap marked "VA". The flap’s integral closure tab is strong and supple with light flaking at the finial hole. Inner flap is very fine and retains both side covers on the flap. No wool fleece pad. Backside of this box has 2 original leather vertical belt loops which are sewn at each end. 1 loop exhibits a break. Leather remains supple with patina to brass finial. (B) Civil War cap box marked "N. WYMAN & CO. / AUGUSTA, GA.". Marking on outer flap is mostly legible. The flap’s integral closure tab is strong and supple. Inner flap is stiff and retains both side covers on the flap. No wool fleece pad. Backside of this box has single wide strap sewn at top and along the bottom reverse edge. Leather remains supple with patina to brass finial. (C) Civil War cap box that is the early style, long and squared, with a separately sewn latch tab. Inner flap is marked by J.B. Sickles but is mostly illegible. Inner flap is stiff and retains both side covers on the flap with star decorations. No wool fleece pad. Backside of this box has 2 original leather vertical belt loops which are sewn and riveted. Loops are intact. Pouch exhibits crazing but is supple overall. (D) Civil War cap box that is the early style, long and squared, with a separately sewn latch tab. Outer flap exhibits a marking that is mostly illegible but appears to read "A STOVER / EA Co". Inner flap is supple and retains both side covers on the flap. Partial wool fleece pad. Backside of this box has 2 original leather vertical belt loops which are sewn at each end. Loops are intact. Pouch exhibits crazing but is supple overall. CONDITION: Good.
