Manufactured by the Burnside Rifle Co. of Providence, Rhode Island, from 1857-1865 in five distinct variations. This is a rather scarce 3rd Model, of which only 1500 were made in 1862, and as such, saw heavy service for the major portion of the conflict, further adding to their scarcity. This was the first model to use the walnut forearm. The Burnside legend is found at breech and has matching serial numbers. Features a walnut stock with metal buttplate and swivel, a saddle bar with ring, round barrel, and folding ladder rear sight. CONDITION: Very good. While the metal retains no original finish, it is a very smooth and homogenous grey patina. All legends are sharp. Stocks show scattered dings and abrasions as expected from a battle used weapon and the name ED is carved into the right side of stock. The rifling is sharp and bright but does have some abrasion. A really crisp carbine that probably saw yeoman service during the war. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
