Lee single shot "Heavy Sporting Rifle" one of about approximately 1000 known to exist. Flaydermann notes that it is one of the few guns made in the west and was primarily sold to officers during the 1864-1865 production period in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. One piece octagon blue swing-out rifled barrel chambered for .38 rimfire. Original blade front sight with fixed rear sight. Case hardened action with external hammer and swing-out latch fitted with slide bar. Barrel marked on top "LEE"S FIREARM'S CO. MILWAUKEE, WIS., PAT'D JULY 22, 1862". Walnut plain stock with steel buttplate, checkered at the wrist. CONDITION: Metal parts have faded to a brown patina with light pitting near the breach face. Cold blue has been added. Wood has been cleaned and lightly sanded with oil added, still shows numerous old nicks and dings. Good mechanics. Bore is dark, but showing visible rifling. A super scarce swing breech rifle. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
