Distinct single shot Civil War carbine, identified by the unique leather covered barrel to protect from salt water aboard ships. The vast majority of these leather covers survived in poor condition, so this one was recovered at some time. The left side of frame has the Sharps 1859 patent legend. The right side has the "Sharp & Hankins Philada." legend. All other features are standard including the brass buttplate, rear sling swivel, adjustable military rear sight, and walnut stock. CONDITION: Very good. No original finish but metal is a smooth patina with some age spotting. Wood does show some scattered light dings. The lever allows the barrel to move forward for loading. Action functions correctly. The bore shows strong rifling but does have some abrasion. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
