The barrel breech is stamped "ARK / 1 / M" for the 1st Arkansas cavalry. This cavalry unit fought in over 17 battles between 1863-64. 20,600 Starr carbines were made in Yonkers, New York, between 1862-1865. Left side of barrel has the "HGS" cartouche for Henry Shaw. It is a breech loading single shot with brass barrel band and butt plate, walnut stocks, round barrel, and folding rear sight. Right side action has the Starr Co. legend, as does the top of barrel and tang. CONDITION: Very good. Stocks are solid but have numerous dings and dents. Metal is a smooth patina. Legends are sharp. Bore is well defined but has some abrasion. Action works correctly.
