Brass bound wood case with inset oval brass plate with roped script initials “Z. T. S.” over “Laclede / Mo.” Interior plush purple velvet lining with oval Sharp & Smith 100 Randolph St., Chicago, label (1876-1882, Edmonson.) Lower tray complete: four amputation knives of differing lengths with tenaculum, etc. and tourniquet in place. Upper concealed tray with bone saw and Hey’s saw, trephine and handle, missing only the bone nipper. An interesting set dating before the concern for sterilization. Likely early at that address. CONDITION: Very Good. Blades bright, checkered handles with no chips. Blue on the trephine, etc. Slight fading and rubs to lining, but no holes or tears. Case with minor dings, narrow cracks, missing three narrow inset brass bands, but good color and key lock in place.
