The Frank Malory Springfield Research letter lists serial number 11718 as issued to Pvt. Levi Olds of the 12th New York Volunteer Cavalry, Company C, which was formed on September 22nd, 1862, and mustered out on July 19, 1865. A copy of this Company's history during the war is included. The carbine is a 4th Model made circa 1863-64 with all standard features. Top of receiver has the Burnside legend, as does the right lock. Sports standard bar and ring on left side. Two piece walnut stock, single barrel band, pinched front sight, folding ladder rear sight and rear sling swivel. There is a visible cartouche on left side that is no longer legible. CONDITION: Very good. Gun has seen use and there is no visible original finish. It is now a freckled grey patina. Stocks show numerous dings and dents but solid. Bore is well defined with just minor abrasions. Fine working order.
