Springfield, under an agreement with Remington, produced around 10,000 rifles between 1871-1872. Rifles were finished in-the-white with exception to the case color receiver. The left side has the Model 1871 legend, while right side is dated 1872 with US Springfield and eagle. Features two barrel bands, swivels, iron rod, a nearly full-length walnut forearm, and walnut stock. Rifle wears a small post front sight and a folding ladder rear. The tang has the Remington legend. The left side of stock has the ESA cartouche for Erskine Allin along with a visible but illegible cartouche on right side. CONDITION: Very good. Receiver colors have patterned out to a freckled nickel. Barrel has been lightly cleaned back to in-the-white. The forearm has been cleaned and has minor impressions. The stock has been refinished some time ago and is shy to metal and shows some black paint decoration. Action is fine. Bore is bright. Hammer slams down when block is closed.
