A wonderful and scarce period cased set consisting of an 1849 Colt Pocket and an 1855 Root side hammer revolver. The 1849 Colt was manufactured in 1855 and the Root was manufactured in 1861. The 1849 Colt Pocket has matching serial numbers on the barrel assembly, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. It has the partial serial number on the loading lever, wedge and arbor. It has a very good and visible stagecoach hold up scene on the cylinder. One piece varnished walnut grips. CONDITION: This gun retains vast majority of the original blue finish ( approximately 40-50% on barrel, 30-40% on cylinder), vibrant case colors on the frame and hammer (approximately 70-80%) and a fine well defined bore. The grips have a very small chip at the heal of the grip, retaining strong finish. Generous silver plating on the trigger guard and backstrap. B. The .31 caliber Root side hammer revolver has matching serial numbers on the bottom of the barrel and on the bottom of the grip with the five shot blued gun that features the fluted cylinder and one piece varnished walnut grips. CONDITION: This gun has the majority of the original factory applied blue finish (approximately 75-85% on barrel 5-10 % on cylinder, dull grey back strap and 70-80% on frame). Most of the finish loss is to the backstrap and the cylinder. Fine bore with well defined lands and grooves. The grips are also excellent showing a few dings on the bottom. Both guns retains sharp legends and come in a period fitted Walnut double case with brass fittings. Inside the case is a powder flask, oil tin, cap box and a Colt combustible cartridge pack. A great set that may have gone to a ranking officer at the start of the Civil War.
