Essentially a scaled down Webley for concealed carry, with British proofs throughout, left side topbreak, and fixed sights. Typical legends throughout, including a stamped “R.I.C. 141” on its back strap, and is the type of revolver plains clothes detectives carried during the Irish War of Independence. It is complete, and mechanically sound. Featured in several American Rifleman articles, this revolver was also displayed in several exhibits for gun collecting clubs in the Mid-Atlantic region. The revolver came from a Vermont dealer in the mid-1990s, at the time Canada imposed draconian regulations on handgun owners, and it may have come from Newfoundland, where some former “Black and Tans” had emigrated in the early 1920s to serve on that police force. PROVENANCE: Kenneth Smith-Christmas collection. CONDITION: Very good, retaining approximately 30% of the high polish bluing, balance mixed with plum brown and soft gunmetal grey. Legends are crisp throughout and legible. Mechanically fine, bore excellent with strong, bright rifling and a touch of frost towards muzzle. A rare gun, made more so by the Royal Irish Constabulary association.
