Manufactured in Canada, this example is marked with "PLY / 1077" identification numbers on barrel extension and bolt handle indicate World War I service with the Plymouth Division Royal Marine Light Infantry. This rifle was featured in an online American Rifleman Article, "The Ross Rifle in Ireland" in September 2021. Rifle remains in full military configuration with arsenal blued finish, hooded blade front sight, adjustable rear sight, straight pull action, and "1915" dated 2 piece walnut stock. Interestingly, a special battalion of Royal Marines Light Infantry carried Ross rifles in Ireland between 1919 and 1921. PROVENANCE: Kenneth Smith-Christmas collection. CONDITION: Very good overall. Rifle retains the vast majority of its arsenal applied blue with areas of fading, especially on the magazine. Wood appears cleaned long ago with markings somewhat faint and scattered impressions throughout. Lightly frosted bore with strong, well defined rifling. Fine mechanics.
