This is part of the 5000 gun contract of January 2, 1865 to supply rifles to the Kentucky Guard but they arrived to late to be of service. KENTUCKY is stamped on left side of chamber. The tang has the Triplett & Scott legend. The Meriden Arms legend is placed at left rear of receiver. Standard features include the round 30" barrel, carbine walnut forearm with single barrel band. Walnut stock has smooth metal carbine butt plate with two swivels, one each at toe and heel but no front swivel. Finish is blue with case color receiver. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel and chamber retain 95% rust blue with some light freckling. The case colors have patterned out. The walnut stock has the typical cracks at left wrist inherent to this weapon. Both the stock and forearm have numerous dings and small abrasions. Bore is bright.
