Manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Arsenal circa 1824 in classic configuration. Lock is dated 1827, and tang is dated 1824. Breech is marked with US property marking and proof mark as well as "LS" inspector mark. Left stock flat opposite lock is marked with "LS" cartouche. Buttplate is marked "US". CONDITION: Very good, with iron assemblies turning a freckled patina over bright polish with scattered light handling marks. Stock has a large expertly executed repair on right side near lock, and scattered handling marks. Lock is a replacement, likely a reconversion to proper flintlock configuration. Mechanically excellent, with two crisp notches at half and full cock. Bore is dark.
